Russell Brand on the Power of 12-Step Addiction Recovery Programmes

In the video above, comedian, activist and recovering addict Russell Brand explains the power of the 12-step recovery model on the Joe Rogan Podcast

Being sober from drink and drugs for over 15 years, Brand has put his success down to the 12-step model founded in the AA programme of alcoholism recovery.

The AA steps emphasize accepting one’s powerlessness over compulsive alcohol use, the willingness to turn your life over to a higher power of your understanding, and a personal inventory that explores your resentments and shame, later followed by a process of amends and the maintenance of a spiritual life.

The model has been so successful it has gone on to spawn the model for drug recovery (NA), sex and love addiction (SLAA), gambling addiction (GA) and even eating disorders (OA).

Groups of each of the fellowships are widespread throughout the world now, and meetings can be found by simply locating the ‘find a meeting’ function on any AA, NA, SLAA or GA webpage.
