The show will be presented by Brand for the first hour with the second hour hosted by therapist Mark Dempster and Kiss FM founder Tosca Jackson as they discuss the effects of substance abuse and how to cope with life challenges in recovery.
Russell Brand has documented his battles with addiction in several documentaries, heralding transcendental meditation as a key part of his recovery.
Dempster, author of the books Nothing to Declare: Confessions of an Unsuccessful Drug Smuggler, Dealer and Addict and The Ongoing Path: A Guide to Stopping Addictive Behavior and Fulfilling Ambition, an autobiography and self-help book respectively, has spoken in past interviews of how he went from homelessness and drug addiction to becoming a Harley Street therapist.
Matthew Layton, Managing Director of Zone 1 Radio, said: “I’m really grateful to Russell for bringing this brilliant radio show to Zone 1 Radio and I am very proud to welcome him to the community radio sector.
“There probably isn’t a place for a show with this kind of ambitious scope and subject matter on the BBC or commercial radio.
“Community radio is probably the only place in the UK with the freedom to undertake a project like this.”
The inaugural show will launch on Tuesday July 4, 2017 and will be available as a podcast thereafter.
The show will run on a weekly basis.
