Donald Trump has vowed to step up efforts to combat America’s worsening addiction crisis, after taking part in a committee chaired by former rival and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

The committee was attended by members of the Trump cabinet, law enforcement chiefs and recovering addicts.

Trump – who is teetotal due to the loss of an alcohol-abusing brother – heard personal stories of addicts who shared their stories about addiction and recovery.

Christie made the issue of addiction a central to his own presidential aims, and with reports stating the US is in a huge opioid addiction quagmire, Trump has looked to him to tackle the issue.

In February 2017, Chris Christie signed legislation that limits first-time opioid prescriptions to only five days’ worth of drugs.

“He asked me to help with this and I’m going to,” Christie said. “It’s an issue that I care about a lot in New Jersey and for the country and so the president asked me to do this and I was happy to.”

Having been lost in the punishing spiral into hell myself, witnessing men around me die in addiction, obsession and pain, I have found the way out by walking the path of spiritual discipline, inner masculine truth and learning from men of wisdom in the spirit of humility.
